Growing up is for people who lack direction. This is my latest bit of personal discovery. It makes sense. People get out of college, the real world is pounding at their door, and without anything else to do they sprint for a cubicle position with excellent dental coverage. Of course they sit in their cubicle day in and day out, envying those with the ambition to have made a go at something bigger… or at least something without a dress code and a hot secretarial staff. I mean, if you don’t have a plan, submitting to the 9 to 5 is certainly the responsible thing to do. Nobody wants to encourage folks to join the food stamp club. (I don’t at least.) But it makes me sad to overhear people mark things off limits for adults – pedophilia excluded – why does deriving enjoyment from roller rinks, road trips, and fart jokes have to end with the attainment of a bachelor’s degree? It makes me more sad to hear people label certain jobs "juvenile", no matter how much the job pays. I chuckle when people I know I make more than tell me that I need to grow up and get a real job because I sleep in on weekdays. Lighten up, and rock out with your cock out. (Or you exploding testicles… Juvenile’s choice.) |
